Mr. Robert E. McQuade, a longtime resident of Andover and beloved husband of Ruth C. (Wright) McQuade, died at the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence on Friday evening, January 25, 2013. He was 84 Years old. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on April 4, 1928, he was the beloved son of the late John and Pearl G. (Flagg) McQuade. Robert was a WWII and Korean Marine Veteran, entering the military at Boston on March 2, 1946 and receiving his honorable discharge from Boston on September 19, 1952. While serving in the Marines, Mr. McQuade worked as a Photographer and as an Armorer, aboard aircraft. He was also a Rifle Marksman and attained the rank of Sergeant. Mr. McQuade received his BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and his MS in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. Bob was the first Director of Andover’s Public Works Department, for whom the Water Treatment Plant was dedicated in 1991. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Works Association, New England Water Works Association, American Academy of Environmental Engineers & Scientists, Greater Lawrence Sanitary District and the Andover Youth Foundation. The pride & joy of his life was spending time with his 8 grandchildren & family. Besides his beloved wife, Ruth, Bob will be very sorely missed by his loving children; Amy and her husband Robert Buck of Salem, New Hampshire, Carla and her husband James Blackwell of North Andover, Marcia and her husband Michael Salvatore of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Barry and his wife Terry of Andover, brother; J. Stanley McQuade of Florida and grandchildren; Anthony and Nicholas Salvatore, Tiana and Micayla McQuade, Jonathan and Colin Blackwell and Amanda and Ryan Buck. His Memorial Service will be celebrated in the West Parish Church, Reservation Road, Andover, Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours have been omitted. Interment will be privately held.
